New Summer Daze alpha patch 0.0.9 for beta test backers
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Jun 18, 2021 at 07:24:11 PM

Summer Daze at Hero-U: Tilly's Tale alpha 0.0.9

Build alpha 0.0.9

  • On Beta channel on Steam
  • Around 80 music changes and 200 more voice lines
  • Journal button hidden; no longer available at all times
  • Journal is now available from Tilly's bedroom as a before-sleep option
  • Journal reading before bed allows the player to choose a second option as well, other choices do not
  • Journal reading before bed does not appear behind choices menu
  • Journal reading before bed can be closed instead of staying open forever
  • Journal reading before bed does not cause all further NPC dialogue to appear as interrupt text
  • Fixed issue where at various times after changing scene, the game would mysteriously pause and not unpause until the player entered and exited the menu or journal or bug report screen

Still To Do

As always, "close to the end" is never quite as close as we'd like it to be.

  • We need to finish breaking out Tilly's thousands of voice-acted dialogue lines.
  • We are still tweaking the music for each scene
  • We want to launch simultaneously on Windows, Mac, Linux, Switch, iOS, and Android. We have only tested on Windows so far.

My best guess for the release date is October or early November. Making that date will depend on building and testing the non-Windows builds.

We might do an Early Access version on Steam for Windows, Mac, and Linux. If we take that route, we'll make it available to all of our Kickstarter backers.

"The Talkies" Juneteenth Livestream
almost 5 years ago – Fri, Jun 18, 2021 at 12:16:55 PM

Talking About Talkie Games

Our next stream is this Saturday, June 19, at 2 pm PDT. Join us at twitch.tv/transolargames for fun, games, and lots of talkie talk.

Yes, the theme this time is voice acting in games. We'll focus on our own games - Quest for Glory, Shannara, and Summer Daze - and also talk about why we did *not* use voice acting in Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption, Castle of Dr. Brain, or Mixed-Up Fairy Tales. The reasons might not be obvious. :-)

Since it's Juneteenth, we'll also spend some time talking about Black heroes in our games, including Uhura, Yesufu, Johari, Ifetaya, and Ifeyo. Each of them has a critical role; we'll talk about them and entertain comments.

Ifeyo Kinah - Hero of Summer Daze at Hero-U: Ifeyo's Adventure

We will *not* stream July 3 due to the American holiday and personal time conflicts, so the next stream will be Saturday, July 17 at the usual time and place.

Where's My Tilly's Tale?

We're pushing Tilly's Tale release back to Fall. It's mostly complete, but we still have to clip out many of Tilly's thousands of voice lines. More importantly, we want to release the game simultaneously on Windows, Mac, Linux, Switch, iOS, and Android. We still need to test the current game build on all of those platforms with our very small team.

New Tilly's Tale alpha build (0.0.8)
almost 5 years ago – Tue, May 18, 2021 at 06:36:19 PM

We've posted a new game build for alpha and beta testers. Bring up the game on Steam and it should give you the option to update to Build alpha 0.0.8 which includes these changes:

  • Added voiceovers for Mooella (complete), Max (complete), and some for Tilly
  • Fixed issue where no actor other than Tilly was emoting during conversations
  • Incorporated Gerhard emotions in first classroom scene
  • All characters whose animations involve blinking/arm movement are double-checked to ensure they will not have duplicate eyes or arms based on particular emotion states
  • Changed wording on the menu options to make the Quit to title menu more of a clearly defined action
  • Fixed the bonfire at the Festival Grounds from looking like it was in a strange state of almost-but-not-quite-fire
  • Music volume defaults at 50%

Even More Summer Daze?

Sami's Story teaser

Even though we're still polishing Tilly's Tale, and we have a vast amount to do on Ifeyo's Adventure, Lori is already planning ahead to Summer Daze 3: Sami's Story, featuring a canine hero. We'll have some tough decisions next year about which game to make next. Keep up with our Patreon and Discord for the latest news.

May Day Madness Live Stream Tomorrow
almost 5 years ago – Fri, May 14, 2021 at 07:34:24 PM

Come join us at https://www.twitch.tv/transolargames for games, puzzles, and developer anecdotes. Or whatever else fills two hours of mayhem!

Lori has returned from the wilds of Oakland. Pictures here on Patreon soon! Our grandson is now 3 months old, and his parents are reportedly doing well.

I'm also working on a patrons-only post about our many game ideas that haven't (yet) made it into the light of day.

On the game development front, Summer Daze at Hero-U: Tilly's Tale has been doing well in Alpha testing, and will soon graduate to Beta. (Definition: A Beta test is an essentially complete game that is close to the final release version.)

We're also working on a German language translation for Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption, and a possible new Summer Daze game subtitled, "Sami's Story." That would be the third game in the series after Ifeyo's Adventure, all depending on how Tilly's Tale sells.

Alpha 0.0.7 now on Steam for Beta-level backers
almost 5 years ago – Fri, May 07, 2021 at 03:14:19 PM

We've moved the Alpha testing over to Steam. If your Kickstarter pledge included Alpha or Beta testing, check your Backerkit digital downloads for a unique Steam key to test the current and future versions.

Philip has fixed all of the problems reported in the previous build, and we've added more of the voice lines.

Please test the new version and use the in-game reporting system to let us know of any problems you find.

Lori is currently working on getting the correct music into each scene; we had some stand-in music previously. She's also finishing Tilly's voice lines. The next build will probably have complete voice acting.

If you're wondering what "finishing voice lines" means, Dave provided us with raw audio files of each recording session. During those sessions, he asked actors to read each line several times with different emphasis and intonation. Lori and I have been going through all of the session recordings and choosing our preferred "read" of each line.

We will not have a livestream this Saturday because Lori is still travelling. The next stream will be Saturday, May 15 at 2 pm PDT. Join us at twitch.tv/transolargames for fun, games, and adventure game developer talk.

Some backers are still waiting for Meeps because we've been away from home for almost a year. We're planning a trip home in mid-June, and should be able to start shipping Meeps again in July, assuming they're still in good condition.
